Garden Spider

Garden Spider
We have lots of these of various sizes in our garden at the moment. This one is currently guarding our domestic waste wheelie-bin!

Best viewed large...............depending on your attitude towards spiders..!!

I am shuddering, but at least this one isn't a house spider. Then I'd be on the point of hysteria. ;-)

Woooah! I'm afraid it would have to go if it was guarding my bin Keith, although I try not to disturb them if they are outside...if they are inside however, they have to be taken out! I can still appreciate your the superb detail in your picture, especially the web ;-)) My daughter has handled a tarantula, yet she freaks out at house spiders!

Have a good weekend Keith.

An outstanding macro. Every hair looks pin sharp and these garden ones have lovely markings. I've never minded spiders outside but used to be terrified of them indoors. Now I've got positively fond of them unless they are in the sink or the bath and have to be rescued. I feel guilty if I put them outside but, if they are very big they have to go.

Keith Burton club has replied to Jean
thank you so much Jean. I'm not that keen on the indoors ones to be honest. We have a Spider Catcher which is basically a small hand hoover, which sucks the spider into a tube and holds it there - you can then take it outside and when you turn it off the suction releases it. No touching involved..!!

Great shot! I accidentally killed a fat spider like that yesterday, when I was sweeping dead midges off of my porch siding. I actually felt badly. I think it was a cat face spider, which has a fat body like that one, and it happens to be the same color as the wall of my porch..

Keith Burton club has replied to Diane Putnam club
Glad you like it Diane. I had to google "cat spider" as I'd never heard of it - but now it's easy to see how it got it's name. We don't have them in England, but it's very similar to some of our garden spider varieties. A shame about the one you accidentally bumped off - but I expect there will be another along soon :-)

As kids we believed that if you killed a spider it's bigger brother would come along and get you, but you should be OK........................I hope!
