Rapid Cooling (1 pip)

Rapid Cooling (1 pip)
At Torrisdale Bay on the Eastern Cost of Kintyre is this extraordinary rock formation, formed I assume as molten lava reached the sea! However, information regarding these rocks appears to be non-existent.
PIP included for a cross view !

The sea is the Kilbrannan Sound with the Isle of Arran in the far distance

I will also say that in the main image, the light/Lens combination has turned the rock slightly greener than I remember it!

It only really becomes clear in a large view !!!!!!

A fantastic photo.
As if lava had flowed there only recently, and then the sea threw these pebbles over it...

Such a wonderfully detailed image Roger.............particularly when viewed large. Those volcanic rocks and pebbles look magnificent.

I also like the background foliage and the distant peaks. Superb close up shot of the volcanic rocks in the PiP........they almost look like waves, which I suppose in a way they were, when they were in the hot, molten stage!

A fascinating shot!

Terrific comments Keith,
As Judite suggested it is probably malachite, but I was so pleased to find it while just wandering along a lonely beach and the peaks across the Kilbrannan Sound are on the Isle of Arran.

Très intéressantes ces concrétions et il est surprenant qu'il n'existe pas d'écrit à leur sujet. Je trouve ces tons très agréables même s'ils ne sont pas tout à fait réels. Belle image Roger.

Thank you, Pearl, The lack of information may be simply be because they appear in other places along this coast and sometimes things that are familiar are ignored. thank you for the comments.

Je ne pense pas que ce soit une coulée de lave. C'est plutôt l'érosion qui a mis a nu cette roche plissée. Je viens de te mette 2 notes sur la dernière coulée de lave de Hawaii près de la ville de Kona
