Marin Headlands Fort Cronkhite (#0083)

Established in the 1930’s, the main facilities at Fort Cronkhite originally housed Army soldiers who staffed the various batteries (see later pictures) and other armaments that were in the headlands. During the Cold War, the fort housed soldiers who staffed a Nike missile base that was at the fort. The Nike missile base closed in the 1970’s and the fort was turned over to the National Park Service in 1974. The barracks and other buildings have been converted into office space for the NPS and for various non-profits. Though this looks like a dense collection of barracks, the history pages linked below show there to have been a much denser collection of barracks during the war (WWII).
