I'm regularly surprised at the number of older, largely abandoned, downtowns that still have open and active J.C. Penney & Co stores.

That surprises me, too. All the little downtown J.C. Penney's that were struggling along in my area when I was a kid have long since vanished, and now all the mall stores I used to know have gone away. I actually thought the company had died.

I wondered if it had changed hands and somehow the sign was not taken down, so checked the corporate website and it lists the store as still open. If you go to the company website, there's still quite a few small town JC Penney stores open in Oregon: stores.jcpenney.com/or
