Palm Springs rain (#0333)

Palm Springs rain (#0333)
The reason we're always reminded to not attempt to drive through a flooded wash. I'm guessing this happened at night before the barricades were set up and the driver probably didn't know the width of the wash. The road here crosses the wash diagonally; the barricades on the opposite side are visible on the right side of the picture (see the satellite view.) From a storm in January.

This is one of those few things I'm probably over-cautious about, as it's way too easy for things to go wrong in this situation. People don't realize how little water it takes for things to turn bad.

Having been raised in Florida where roads regularly flooded, I used to be fairly sloppy about crossing standing water on the road. But after a few years out here and seeing scenes like this, I got a better understanding of the difference between crossing a flooded spot versus crossing a running stream.
