Two guys testing the very cold waters. I had passed them on the beach, so I know that the one in the background is much older than the one charging into the ocean. Somehow I suspected they were European tourists, since Californians (and most Americans) don't go charging into the Pacific in mid-winter without a wet suit.

Holy cow. Either tourists, guys from the east coast (warmer water) or high school kids. I remember we used to actually try swimming/surfing at this time of year just to see if we could. Verdict: we couldn't. Following would be a beach party, big fire, cheap wine and beer, etc.

I expect they were European, and possibly gay -- both handsome and in-shape, the one diving into the waves looked to be in his 30's the other in his 40's or even 50's. Probably northern European since Germans and Scandinavians swim in the Baltic in bathing suits, even though it's always cold.
