One thing that amazes me at such sites is the number of very young kids riding unsupervised on OHV's. Note the one near me. Just a couple moments later, as I was driving out of the park on what was the main road, two kids that looked to be somewhere between 9 and 12 came from behind a truck that was on the side of road, driving such vehicles, directly into the path of my car. If I hadn't slammed on brakes, I would have hit both, but they rode merrily on, chatting away and oblivious to what had happened. Considering the number of beer boxes in the dumpster, I'm not surprised at the number of kids driving dangerously and unsupervised.

Clint, have particularly liked this photo

I used to see that sort of thing in my old Kentucky homeland all the time. My cousin got a three-wheeler for his eighth birthday. I was jealous, but my mother was far more overprotective. As I've aged, I've come to redefine her take as "reasonable."

It's actually a difficult balance for me. I think too many kids are way over-protected these days and need more opportunity to risk, but then it seems like too many of the parents who aren't overy-protective are going too far in the opposite direction and not monitoring foolishness.

I agree most kids these days are wrapped in bubble wrap, and they have a hard time breaking past that. I was always one to just let them go, and if they hurt themselves, I'd say, "You learned something, didn't you." My line is motorized equipment, though. Kids are dumb enough on bikes. A thousand-pound machine with a motor goes too far.

That, and guns, were basically the lines my parents drew. Something about potential to maim others might be a good standard.
