Hay mowed and baled, autumn is coming

Shot in 720nm infrared, desaturated in the GIMP because it looked as if there is a faint color hotspot in the picture. I have to remember to move the aperture off of "auto" to f8 or f11 to avoid this. But I'm happy with this picture of a favorite field in monochrome.

Resurrection Lily

Not really a lily but a kind of amaryllis. A long, leafless stem appears quickly, then the buds and blooms on top. A lovely surprise on hot midsummer days.

This bug can kill you

It's a (common name) Eastern Bloodsucking Conenose, a species of "kissing bug" capable of carrying a potentially fatal parasite. It sucks your blood and bites you on your lip. At night. While you're asleep. And it's found over much of the U.S. This one, I'm very sad to say, was in my bathroom sink. Yesterday.

A processing lesson

After looking at the previous picture, I realized I'd allowed the highlights to get blown out. In infrared, at least in the Fuji cameras and the GIMP, there's a lot more detail in highlights and shadows than you'd think. So after applying auto white balance and doing the red-blue channel swap, in this version I brought the highlights down a stop or so.

590nm is watercolors; 720nm is acrylics

Kolari-converted Fujifilm X-E2, 14mm f2.8 Fujinon. Processed in the GIMP -- auto whire balance and channel swap, but otherwise OOC.
