USAF 85B 425 in Mildenhall town centre – 13 Nov 1988 (78-13)

Sunday 13 November 1988 – United States Air Force 85B 425 had brought a contingent of service personnel to participate in the Remembrance Day service in Mildenhall town centre.

Prior to the early 1980s USAF had operated American built buses at RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath. This policy changed and renewals were with European and locally built vehicles of similar types supplied to the British Ministry of Defence. This vehicle was bodied by Reeve Burgess on a Renault or Dodge chassis.

It was seen in what was the town car park, the site of which later became the bus station. The children’s playground is on the right in front of the parked cars which are standing where the bus layover bays now stand. The houses on the left are in the cul-de-sac part of King Street.
