Chenery D408 OSJ (D354 CBC, GIL 1685) 23 Oct 1993

Chenery D408 OSJ (D354 CBC, GIL 1685) 23 Oct 1993
Saturday 23 October 1993 – R W Chenery operated two similar Mercedes-Benz O 303 coaches which were originally new to Hirst Coaches of Holmfirth. D408 OSJ (new as D354 CBC having been registered GIL 1685 along the way) was seen at Drummer Street, Cambridge loading as the 1505 National Express service 347 to Lowestoft. Chenery’s became a contractor to National Express on 23 May 1993 primarily to work the Norwich to London ‘Rapide’ service 599 but the company also worked this summer Saturdays only trip on service 347 (1050 Lowestoft to Cambridge returning at 1505). The route between Thetford and Cambridge was via Brandon and Mildenhall omitting Newmarket but from the commencement of the winter schedules (on Monday 1 November 1993) the service was increased to operate on Saturdays and Sundays but re-routed via Bury St.Edmunds and Newmarket. Unlike the 599 service coaches which were operated by coaches in National Express livery, the 347 trip was usually worked by a coach in Chenery’s own livery.
