Chenery 5092 EL and Eastern Counties JCL 808V 4 Dec 1993

Saturday 4 December 1993 (1350) - Richard W Chenery of Dickleburgh, Norfolk became a contractor to National Express on 23 May 1993 primarily to work the Norwich to London ‘Rapide’ service 599 but the company also worked a summer Saturdays only trip on service 347 at 1050 from Lowestoft to Cambridge returning at 1505 from Cambridge to Lowestoft. The route between Thetford and Cambridge was via Brandon and Mildenhall omitting Newmarket. From the commencement of the winter schedules on Monday 1 November 1993 the service was increased to operate on Saturdays and Sundays re-routed to serve Bury St.Edmunds and Newmarket. Unlike the 599 service coaches which were operated by coaches in National Express livery, the 347 trips was usually worked by a coach in Chenery’s own livery. 5092 EL is a Kässbohrer-Setra S215HD which I believe was new to Carnells’ of Sheffield as PKW 322X. Alongside is Eastern Counties LL808 (JCL 808V), a 1980 Willowbrook bodied Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R, which was about to work the 1430 Suffolk County Council supported service 200 to Thetford via Mildenhall and Brandon. It was new as a National Express liveried coach. When ECOC was split up the coach passed to Ambassador Travel (Anglia) Limited but returned to ECOC and over the years was relegated to bus type work.
