Eine Zauberwelt en miniature - A magical world in miniature

I kept looking for fruticose lichens on my hikes. Now my search was finally successful: In a Franconian nature reserve, I found small clusters of the pebbled cup lichen (Cladonia pyxidata) with a trumpet-like structure and tiny on barren limestone gravel soil with only sparse moss vegetation. Recently, I have shown several lichen species from the group of crustose lichens and foliose lichens. The last group to be added now are the fruticose lichens. There are around 25,000 species of lichen worldwide, 2000 of which are found in Central Europe. Compared to the more than 300,000 plant species worldwide and the approximately 140,000 fungi species worldwide, lichens are therefore a small group. It is well known that some lichens are extremely resilient and can even survive a few weeks in the outer space (!).
