sam - MD Phantom
McDonell Douglas Phantom FGR2 {XV 406}
Originally developed in the USA, and modified to fit UK parameters in order to cover the gap when the UK government cancelled a number of projects which were being designed to replace / update older aircraft. Served the RAF from 1969 until the 1990s.
XV406 first flew in 1969, and served with 111 squadron and other units. Last duty was as the Gate Guard at RAF Carlisle, before being acquired by SAM.
