Cow Hey Wood

Many years ago as a teenager I used to come here to use a rope swing suspended from the sycamore in the centre of this image. Today the branch that we used has been sawn off and the stream has moved away from the place we used to fall in the water. It's still a magical place but somehow not what I remember. Never go back is probably the best advice.

This cement works near Mold, North Wales, has recently commissioned this new kiln which has replaced three existing kilns on the site. Kiln 4 total cost £63 million, is 65 metres long with a 95 metre preheater tower that feeds in raw materials.
Alternative fuels to be used at Padeswood include Cemfuel, which is processed from the residue of recycled waste solvents, and Profuel, which comprises paper and plastic wastes. In the future, vehicle tyres will also be used as an alternative fuel.

This man was typical of many people that were passing by in a residential area of Yaojie. Life here is hard and dirty with the main industries being coal mining and cement production. The people, however, are wonderfully friendly and optimistic.
