Sandaoling power station
| |
|
Seen through the shimmering haze this is the local coal-fired power station at Sandaoling, Xinjiang Autonomous Region in the far west of China. There were plans to build another 700MW plant here but due to new restrictions announced during 2016 by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, further capacity expansions at this location appear to be on hold or cancelled. Further details of this significant policy change can be found here:

The Namtu Flue

A long flue leads to the chimney from the old lead/zinc smelter at Namtu, Myanmar. The lack of vegetation on the hillside around the chimney is a good indication of the heavy metal fallout.

Water rates for a number of houses on Lord Street and George Street, Macclesfield in 1854. A bit less than it would be today.

Dean Clough Mills

Dean Clough Mills in Halifax are a group of large factory buildings built in the 1840s - 60s for Crossley's Carpets, becoming one of the world's largest carpet factories (half a mile long with 1,250,000 square feet of floorspace). After years of declining production it closed in 1983, when it was bought by a consortium led by Sir Ernest Hall which developed the Grade II listed site for various commercial and cultural uses. It is now seen as a leading example of successful urban regeneration. The converted mills now house about 150 large and small businesses and arts venues.

A bit of glint as B1 61264 leaves the Damems loop and heads for Oakworth during the 30742 charters event on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

A great day out today at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway on a 30742 Charters photoshoot. In the bright sunshine that we experienced all day B1 61264 takes its train across Mytholmes Viaduct.

Top that!

More winter entertainment for the masses on the Songhua River at Harbin. There were plenty of takers for the whipping top option when they had tired of hovercraft and sliding around on chairs.
Former bank?
| |
|
I suspect that this corner building in the certre of Crewe was once a bank. The mix of olive terracotta at ground floor level and cream terracotta and brickwork above works really well.

The polychromatic brickwork seen here at Crewe Station may contain bricks manufactured by the London and North Western Railway Company at its Crewe works.

The 1884 Macclesfield gasholder was under demolition when I took this shot. It has now gone completely and the site is being prepared for development.
