Three tanks

Railway water tanks at Menindee. Clearly a lot of water capacity was required here in steam days.

Valley Works
| |
|
Remains of one of the shell filling buildings at the Rhydymwyn Valley Works near Mold. This large site was used for the processing of poison gas munitions during WWII. The finished shells and bombs were stored in nearby tunnels. If you look carefully you can still see the camouflage paint on the walls.

Two 1975 built GEC Traction locomotives stand with a couple of cement tank wagons at the Ribblesdale Cement Works at Clitheroe.
The shop
| |
|
|
This corrugated iron building was once a general store at Ystolhelyg Bach, a short distance from Aberdaron. It seems to have been disused for a considerable time.
Sussex Street again

The now demolished Sussex Street gasholder in Sheffield. This four lift structure was a fine local landmark.
Topley Pike Quarry
| |
|
|
|
Aggregate Industries, a US based company, operate the Topley Pike Quarry under the Bardon Aggregates banner. A climb to the top of the hill at the end of Deep Dale yielded this overview of the crushing and processing plant. The quarry lies to the rear left and appears to have few reserves left.
Red

Red brick and terracotta make this commercial premises stand out on Greyfriars Road in Cardiff. It is particularly notable as there is very little of this style of architecture in the city.
Peat power
| |
|
|
Old and new peat fired power stations of the Irish Electricity Supply Board at Shannonbridge. The old plant on the left was closed after an accident in February 2004 when a high-pressure pipe at the plant exploded. The plant was already to be decommissioned as part of the planned closure of all six peat-fuelled stations in the country at that time. Subsequently the new 150 megawatt West Offaly station at the front has been constructed and this is supplied with around 1 million tons of peat annually by Bord na Mona.
The old station was demolished in 2008/09 and the new station has until the end of 2020 before shutdown having just been reprieved for a year.
Waiting at Broken Hill

Pacific National locos NR9 and NR113 pause at broken Hill with an eastbound container train. The building on the spoil tip is a cafe with the Line of Lode Miners Memorial to the left.

The 600mm line from the Haljinici coal mine to the Catici washery was originally electrified but the wires were stolen during the civil war. When production restarted the line began operating diesel locomotives manufactured in Italy by Valente. The usual load is 15 one tonne tubs. The electric locomotives have been scrapped.
Quorn yard

Water tank at Quorn on the Pichi Richi Railway, South Australia. The South Australian Railways seem to have made the most of selling advertising opportunities on their water tanks across the state.
Rasp Mine
| |
|
|
Production at the Rasp Mine in central Broken Hill has a long and profitable history. Development ceased in 2008 when metal prices fell but has since resumed and the mine currently employs c160 people. Annual production is planned to average 34,000 tonnes of zinc metal in concentrate, 28,000 tonnes of lead metal in concentrate, and 1.1 million ounces of silver in the lead concentrate.
