Derbyshire draw kiln
| |
A small draw limekiln at the roadside near Hartington Station on the Tissington Trail.
Generation
| |
One of the generator sets at Drax power station. With a capacity of 3,870Mw this is the UK's largest power station by a big margin.

Pumping station
| |
A walk in the Flintshire hills provided a surprise find with this disused pumping station at Fron-fawnog. A long way from a road.
SY 1601
| |
The coldest day I have ever experienced. SY 1601 was shunting the Jalainur washery in a temperature of -40C. The crew seemed strangely reluctant to leave the cab.
Co-op
| |
Former offices of the Co-operative Society in Manchester, The terracotta was supplied by the The Hathern Station Brick and Terra Cotta Company in Leicestershire.

Waverley Hotel
| |
The Waverley Hotel building in Hull has a wealth of terracotta decoration. It is now just a drinking establishment on the ground floor known as the Masters Bar.
Water pickup
| |
A logging train takes on water from a trackside pond. The Wassertalbahn running from Viseu de Sus in Northern Romania fetches timber down from the extensive forests on the border with Ukraine. The locomotive is 764-421 (Resita 1126 of 1954).

The Quorn water tank
| |
Water tank at Quorn on the Pichi Richi Railway, South Australia. The South Australian Railways seem to have made the most of selling advertising opportunities on their water tanks across the state.
River crossing

19D 3322 on the Bergrivier bridge at Moravia on the Klawer Branch in Western Cape.
Grimsby
| |
New lift towers attached to the old footbridge at Grimsby Station. The Transpennine service is heading from Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes.
The Masters Bar
| |
The Masters Bar is situated in what was once the Waverley Hotel on the corner of South Street and Jameson Street in Hull. It is certainly a riot of terracotta ornamentation at ground floor level.
Four Queens
| |
Four blast furnaces (named after English Queens) at the Scunthorpe steelworks with slab product stacked in the foreground. The cooling towers and water tower are a bonus.
Chinese small mines
| |
Headgears on a small coal mine near Dazhuangkuang in Henan Province, China. This area seemed to be mainly shaft mines whereas most small mines I have seen in China used adits.
Crew change at Crewe
| |
Drivers exchange places in the cab of 92 014 during the 5.30am stop of the Highland sleeper service at Crewe. I had just 30 minutes to wait before catching the first morning service to Manchester.
