Juliette Simon-Girard by Tourtin

Juliette Simon-Girard by Tourtin
Juliette Simon-Girard (1859-1954); French soprano.

She was the daughter of the soprano Caroline Girard. In 1877 she made her debut at the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques creating the role of Carlinette in Offenbach's première of "La foire Saint-Laurent". In that same year she created the role of Serpolette in Planquette's "Les cloches de Corneville". During this production she met and married the well-known tenor Max Simon (1852-1923) and from then on she used the stage name Juliette Simon-Girard. Together with her husband she sang at numerous premières during the 1870s and 1880s but the most successful one was undoubtably "Les cloches de Corneville". This production had 400 consecutive performances at the Folies-Dramatiques. Another special pruduction was the première of Offenbach's "La fille du tambour-major" in 1879; she created the role of Stella and her mother Caroline Girard the role of Duchesse Della Volta. In 1914 she retired from the stage.

On the photo she is seen as Serpolette in Planquette's "Les cloches de Corneville".
