Emma Thursby (1845-1931); American soprano.
After vocal studies with Francesco Lamperti, Hermine Rudersdorff and Maurice Strakosch she started her career in 1875 with an extensive tour through the USA and Canada. In 1878 she came to England where she was very successful in concert. In the following years until 1881 she made concert tours in France, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Norway. Despite her big triumfen she returned to the USA in 1882. In 1882/83 she made another great concert tour through the USA and Canada. Despite attractive offers from various opera companies she never performed on the opera stage. She later became a singing teacher and one of her most famous pupils was Geraldine Farrar.
