St Laurence's Church ~ Bradford-on-Avon

St Laurence's Church ~ Bradford-on-Avon
St Laurence's Church, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, is one of very few surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in England that does not show later medieval alteration or rebuilding. The church is dedicated to St Laurence and documentary sources suggest it may have been founded by Saint Aldhelm around 700, although the architectural style suggests a 10th or 11th century date. St. Laurence's stands on rising ground close to the larger Norman parish church of the Holy Trinity. The building was used as a combined school (nave) and cottage (chancel) for many years, both on more than one storey. It was rediscovered in 1856 and restored in 1870–80. In 1952 the church was designated as Grade I listed.

Well done Rosa! And your PiP's are also very nice. Good to see also the inner side. In the Netherlands, most of the (small) churches are weekly closed. Only on Sunday you can in them.

An amazing story of survival Rosa. The you have captured the detail in the honey coloured stonework very nicely. The the interior shots with the lighting in and around the doorways have a great atmosphere.

Best regards, Doug

A delightful little church...............it looks absolutely splendid under the blue sky and the sunlight has brought out the detail in the stonework beautifully. The PiPs are very nice too, it's always good to see an interior shot as well. I especially like the framing of the image taken from the inside looking out.
