Sierra de La Cabrera. In the gap: The plateau of the Meseta Sur stretching out below for hundreds of kilometres to the south. And Madrid is down there too, invisible in the industrial and car-induced smog.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton clubYesterday saw my return for a walk here after a year or more! My pedometer on my phone congratulated me for breaking my daily record (40, 512 steps). In times past I would regularly do much more - this record is only since I downloaded the app a couple of months ago. What is doesn't say is what altitude you've climbed through the day and from a health perspective that is just as important.
I walk a lot on weekdays too; between classes all over Madrid, some of which are a long way from station or bus stop. My average is 12,000 steps, I have just discovered. But as temperatures are going to to climb into the100s soon, I will have to stop (it's too much) - and just keep to the (slightly) cooler hills at the weekend; at least they tend to generate a cooling breeze which the furnace-like Madrid on the plain certainly doesn't!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Rosalyn HilborneI would be happy with 12,000 on a normal working day for me. But I expect to do considerably more on a day in the country of course! I just don't get many opportunities these days!
