HFF ~ Repel invaders
We are on the Tossa de Mar castle ramparts here looking out over the main beach and new town.
“The Castle of Tossa de Mar, known as part of the fortified old town Vila Vella, was built in 1187 by order of the abbot of Ripoll to defend the coast from frequent North African pirate raids. It was erected in the 12th century following a charter granted by the Monastery of Ripoll. Built on Mount Guardí, its Walls and Towers were expanded in the 14th century, featuring robust stone ramparts and. It remains the only fully preserved medieval walled town on the Catalan coast
The original high castle structure was eventually replaced by a windmill, which was later demolished in 1917 to build the operational Tossa de Mar Lighthouse.
It was all declared a national historic-artistic monument in 1931.” WiKi
HFF, enjoy the day.
