The Massachusetts Fifty-Fourth Regiment

The Memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts Fifty-Fourth Regiment is a bronze relief sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens opposite 24 Beacon Street, Boston. Created in 1884 opened in 1897.
The American Civil War. 1861-1865. The regiment (only the second of such) consisted of African-American enlisted men commanded by white officers.
