Crompton Moor trig-point

Crompton Moor trig-point
A view of the trig point on the highest hill on Crompton Moor. We see here the door and window on the side of this large trig point structure---- or do we?

HBM, enjoy the week.

Trigonometriepunkte waren in der DDR nur Holzgestelle, heute buddeln sie rotweiße Plastepfähle ein. HBM

They must have had to replace those points often then Jens. Plastic - not environmentally good nowadays. In practice, for some years no new concrete trip points have been erected as GPS has made them redundant.

HBM, enjoy the day my friend. Herb

HBM Herb ~ I'm surprised to see the stone work so close to the trig point ~ but it must be OK

I think the old stone wall or structure was here before the trig point.

Far more substantial than any trig point I've seen, Herb, and it does indeed look like a door and window. HBM and have a good week.

A cracking view of this Trig Point...........and the wonderful view it offers. Shame about the bench being in the way :-)))

I've done a bit of research and the window and door are actually an Ordnance Survey plaque and a Flush Bracket :-)

Do I get a prize?

You certainly do Keith ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) . Glad you took the trouble to check that out. I was quite amazed to see how our eyes plays tricks on us with the size of all that. Glad you liked the view in spite of the bench. In the old days, I would have never included benches as I felt they were intrusive and never so pretty :)

Cheers. Herb

I'm surprised the Flush Bracket is still there.............apparently they are very collectable and fetch a good price on the 2nd hand market..!!

Hi Herb
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice composition. I think the bench adds a real sense of scale to the picture. We all know that Trig points are around a metre tall, but the 'door' and 'window' (yes, I seen Keith's comments) do add a sense of mystery which is only resolved by the bench.
Although I suppose there could be a few elves that live there...
Best Wishes, Happy Monday, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!

Thanks Peter. A nice surprise as we had never before ventured up here. I was surprised too by the optical illusion re the size of the trig point.
