Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle
A very long view back into the past for me showing this famous castle situated on the small tidal island of Eilean Donan. It is said to be the most photographed fortress in the whole of Scotland. The original castle was built in the 13th century and destroyed in 1719 but this version was built in the twentieth century.

To be honest Gordon it was your photo (as well as one or two others I have recently seen on here) that prompted me to look for this. I came across it the other day whilst viewing my Applecross slides. So just a quick snap whilst passing on our way south from there. Very glad you liked this version and it was worth a golden star.

The castle and the bridge look wonderful in silhouette. The light is absolutely glorious and I like the different colour tones. An outstanding shot Herb and with probably the best background I've seen in photos of t he castle.

Thanks Peter. Yes slides had to be right from the start -no editing of them. Unlike mono film which you could edit if doing it yourself, like I did but that all altered with colour development which was largely set in place too.

Great that you enjoyed this iconic scene which we hope to see again next year on our travels up there.

I am afraid that some of that blue may be due to a slide colour fade in the slide but that being said - I converted this some years back so it might not have faded at all.

A longs lens I think Ko! Taken with my old Canon A1 and 600mm ? I will have to relook at the actual scene again next year when we visit nearby.
