Ferry crossing across the River Avon towards Bantham

Ferry crossing across the River Avon towards Bantham
A much smaller river Avon than its more famous namesake at Bristol. This in Devon near Kingsbridge and Salcombe. We are actually taking a coastal walk from Thurleston Sands to Burge Island (pip) and in doing that we must cross the river here just a mile or so up the estuary. We were told that one could wade across in low tide just a few hundred metres higher up from here but that would have entailed waiting another four hours. So a small motorised boat across with the ferryman to be repeated in the opposite direction some 6-7 hours later. Our journey carries on by foot down river and over hills to the right before dropping down to the sea again to the Island.

Enjoy full screen.

What a beautiful place...............and I love this image, it's full of things to look at and enjoy, especially viewed large.

I like that large thatched building and all the boats stacked out of the water along various walls etc, and there are some lovely wooden sailing boats at anchor. I think I also see a Grey Heron and an Egret and an Oystercatcher as well as the usual gulls. The are some nice distorted reflections as well and I love the seaweed floating on the surface of the water.

Burge Island looks lovely in the mist and no doubt we'll be seeing some more photos of it at some stage...........looking forward to lthose.

You kmow Keith, that you express in your comment here almost the exact thoughts that I had whilst being here. These places, are in reality almost foreign to me, as I live well in the countryside. This walk was one of our best experiences of that trip and this corner in particularly was charming beyond belief with that thatched roof building. As you say too, much water fowl and seabirds here. The island was good too but crowded with tourist and misty when we got there but still worth doing. I shall post some more of this trip in the future.

I have to tell you, although unfortunately I've never been there, that this impressive image of yours has caused me intense emotion.

Bea, I can recognise a very emotional and artistic mind in you. These images, like your very own, easily conjure up even deeper visions of beauty, light and nature. That is what makes our hobby so beautiful at times. My pleasure to share my vision here with you.

Keep good my friend. Herbert

Thanks Annemarie. I think the solstice it is today.

I have just watched the sunrise over our Stonehenge: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxfiRpbe9iI (not very impressive)

Aye George, it was very nice here indeed. This area had quite a few thatched houses and many little creeks with old boats but I had nit the time to explore like I would have liked -it would take months :)

An area I love Herb and have such fond memories of. Thurlstone Sands and Hope Cove was a favourite holiday destination of my parents, and where I spent my last holiday with them before getting married. Beautiful pictures. Cheers, Rosa.

Rosa, I already know that you are familiar with this area, particularly Hope Cove where we were not so far from. I knew when posting this, that you might be interested and yes, that you would enjoy this. Maybe some more to come in the future.
We got to admit, that we love Devon.
