Lost corner

Lost corner
The Pennines of Yorkshire can be lonely at times. This dwelling of old - long abandoned, must have felt a million miles from civilization. No running water and no electricity or gas must have made life hard here with only the sheep for company. Now, even the most ambitious house renovator keeps clear. A great path though, especially with this lighting.

Enjoy

Ghislaine Girardot, Erhard Bernstein, Keith Burton, Eva Lewitus and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great scene and I guess whoever lived there liked it. I had a couple of farm summer holidays just like this on Bodmin moor when I was a Lad, Spring water bought up by hand pump wood burner and paraffin lights. It was an experience few would know about these days.

Now that is asking something Peter. Lots of these farms and out-buildings were built in the 16-19th centuries. the stone on this looked quite old and the roof of the main building had collapsed already.

I wish you a Happy New year too.

I zoomed out on the map - to see where you are.. yes - and as with other examples of years gone by.. it does make you wonder how hard life was back then.. but I suppose they regarded their farming lives ? as a means of fulfilling duty and just got on with it.. as they didn't 'expect' or plan for anything else.. our plug in and motorised lifestyle today wouldn't have been even dreamed of... and - who knows...would they have wanted it ?
End of Dave's deep thinking session... // Keep well Herb'.. and 'all the best' for 2020.

Nice to see you and your considered comment here Dave. As you say, life was simple as well as hard in those days. Modern living has indeed improved our lives nowadays but are we really fulfilled? Life without instant heat, convenience foods, TV, computers, phones and soft bedding plus furniture - how could we cope now. Not so good I fear! -
Herbs end of deep thinking too!

Have a gud-un my friend and Happy flying -but not tonight at mid-night!

Nice to see you again Gordon. I must admit to tossing for the portrait version or this one here. A great walk here. you can either take a very short 2 miler around the res or a bigger 5.5 around the reservoir and up the valleys somewhat -passing these super buildings. Well worth a visit. Another for the bucket list I guess. I seem to remember doing the Ramsden reservoirs near here too, a long time back now.

A happy New Year to you too.

While I have to say Living here would be great away from the 21st century and a very simple life. I can see the benefits of it big time. the shot is great you get the overall view of the place and the naked tree well worth the time to enjoy the walk about the place.

In a way, I think I could wish to live here. With a constant view to die for and normally a change of weather vista every few minutes, it certainly has its merits. Another similar farm dwelling just higher than this, has also been almost abandoned now but with cups in the kitchen maybe someone still tries to eek out a living there wit its transported in -fresh water. The tree - well that can tell us the whole story -we only have to learn the language. - Quite different from your neck-of-the-woods in a drought torn hot Western Australia my friend. Glad you liked it.

I suppose everybody lived like this. If you don´t compare life is just what it is. They had their days full and that I am sure was good for their souls
