Eine Hirschgruppe im Hutewald - A group of deer in a wood pasture

Eine Hirschgruppe im Hutewald - A group of deer in a wood pasture

Wood pastures with e.g. oaks were valuable areas for agriculture in the Middle Ages and were purposefully planted. Due to the loose tree position, enough light fell to the ground for the development of meadows, which were grazed with cattle, sheep and goats from spring onwards. In autumn the pigs were driven into the forest to fatten them with acorns. im is used in this traditional way with cattle and red deer. The wood pasture Hellmitzheim was supported by the European Union.

How beautiful and tranquil. Love the visible breaths! I also found it very interesting that these trees were planted--I didn't know people purposely planted oak trees but your explanation makes great sense. I will say that the deer and acorn woodpeckers gorge themselves on the acorns that fall every year here--and we have plenty of them! Most of our trees are oaks with a smattering of madrones, conifers and the shrub-sized manzanitas.
