North Carr Lightship

North Carr Lightship
The North Carr is believed to be the last remaining Scottish lightship. In 1975 the lightvessel was replaced by an east cardinal buoy and decommissioned. After decommissioning, the vessel served as a floating museum in Anstruther then relocated to Victoria Dock under the ownership of the Taymara (Tay Maritime Action) charity. . It looked rather fine in Anstruther, but unfortunately Taymara were unable to raise sufficient funds for its restoration and the vessel is now destined to be dismantled and scrapped. Such a pity.

Dundee has spent a lot of money on the riverside improvements, and I do feel that some of the money spent should have been used to preserve this lightship.

I recognize this ship well, Amelia. I am surprised it is still afloat, and I always wonder who is growing the tomato plant inside the light holder. All the best, Joe

Such pity about the lightship, it would be well worth preserving!
The one in Hamburg has been turned into an event location/ hotel I wonder why this wasn't an option for Dundee...

Dundee doesn't seem to have the will to save this lightship. Adrian thinks that a lot of the rust id just surface damage. Maybe someone who has money will take it on.

Es wäre wirklich zu schade, wenn es so weiter verrottet und dann verschottet wird. Hat es doch so viele Jahre Dienst getan und vielleicht auch so manche Leben gerettet, wenn es nebelig war.

It's very sad that this once lovely light-ship has been left to rust and decay like this. They really ought to do something with it...........there is one near me in Gosport that has been converted into a floating restaurant, so it is possible..!!

Sad to say, but it does make a fascinating photographic subject. Nicely captured Amelia.

An interesting image and, as your notes indicate, a very disappointing likely outcome for this historic ship, Amelia.

The lightship caught my eye in thumbnail Amelia. She is a beauty and it is really sad to see her in this condition. If they let her go all that history goes with her. I really hope someone comes up with the funds to restore her. It doesn't have to cost a fortune - there must be enthusiasts out there willing to donate their time and efforts to restoring her to her former glory. I really hope so. It should be preserved for future generations.

Best wishes Carol
