Welcome to Shrewsbury Prison. Back in lockdown.

Welcome to Shrewsbury Prison. Back in lockdown.
We can still walk around Shrewsbury, as well as taking walks along our local canals and in the countryside. Also the nearest National Trust property, Attingham Park, is not closing down, although they won't be serving coffee, cake and other goodies except for taking away. So we have plenty pf good places for exercise. Thank goodness we don't live in an apartment in a city. We must be grateful for small mercies, and keep obeying all the rules.

The prison was decommissioned in March 2013, and is now used as an interactive tourism destination. It is currently for sale.

Let's hope your lockdown is able to contain this virus. Stay safe.

We are lucky Amelia. To live in a flat with a young family must feel like a prison.
Michelle's friend gives ghost tours around Shepton Mallet Prison....not open for a month now of course. Enjoy your walks around Attingham.

An interesting image Amelia............captured in super detail. It looks in very good condition from the outside at least and I expect it will soon be snapped up and converted into posh apartments!

I'm glad you have places nearby to exercise.........we should be OK too, I'll do us no harm to explore places closer to home for a while.

This would a good postcard, Amelia, if you printed 'Wish You Were Here' on it. LOL. All the best, Joe

You are lucky not to be stuck in there;-) It's times like the present one where I miss the countryside but I won't complain, I guess our lockdown is lighter than yours!

I remember visiting Shrewsbury in the mid 1960s for a school geography course. Sadly, the only things I remember about the town now are (1) there was some debate as to how to pronounce its name, and (2) there was a Mozart LP in a shop window that I didn't buy because of doubts about getting it home safely.
What you say about the prison building is interesting - but again I won't be buying it!
