Children crossing
Today's Sunday Challenge: Signs

About 5 years ago there was a big push in the village in order to curb speeding. The children at the local primary school in the village were asked to design road signs to encourage drivers to slow down as they approached the school. This one has always amused me, because the meaning could have been so different without the exclamation mark. It reads, "SLOW ! CHILDREN CROSSING".

The PiP is an alternative.

I should think that makes most people smile and slow down so very effective. Our primary school is on a through road to Perth. There's a lot of traffic and the speed limit is 30mph. There have been efforts to get it made 20mph but Fife Council is reluctant. Fortunately, because of residents on one side having nowhere to park their cars but on the road it is almost single track. Cars can just about pass each other but everyone has to slow down.

We have a 20mph speed limit through the village, Berlin cushions on the road and 'slow down' signs informing one of the speed. But folks still go too fast. Occasionally there is a speed cop in the village and that slows everyone down to 20mph. A couple of 'sleeping policemen' would be much better than the Berlin cushions, but the council won't approve. I'm actually not sure that the police can enforce 20mph.

We've got a similar child's sign at the end of our street, with the slogan twenty is plenty" and a picture of a snail. People don't seem to take much notice though. A nice and colourful image

You are right, without the exclamation mark it would correspond to what also is a reality !!!!

A lovely shot Amelia and it's good to get the children involved with the signage. I'd like to think it will encourage drivers to slow down, but sadly I doubt that it will :-(

I think both of them are perfect and fun! Cars would also have to slow down for slow children;-) The PiP makes me imagine careless anglers being electrocuted....

What a great idea to get the children to design a picture. They should roll that out everywhere.
So many cars outside Wincanton junior school that there is no chance of even doing 20mph, but maybe that's a good thing. The PiP made me smile :)

Interesting thing is that many speeders are living close by and thinking they can do it because they know the situation well...
until the moment one does not want to experience.

Aha, das sind dann 32.19 km/h. In Deutschland sieht das vergleichbare Verkehrsschild so aus:
