Andy... they are alms houses.. still used as such.

They are for older residents in need of home

I don't think these are almshouse, Pam. There are other rows of almshouses in Wells, but apparently, today’s residents of Vicars’ Close include all 12 men of the Vicars Choral, the organists, and vergers.

Amelia.. Wells is one of my favourite places in the world. I was able to go back there(many visits as kids) the one time in 2011 when I was able to go home.

I still have cones from the Cedar of Lebanon there tween the Cathedral and the Bishops Palace.

It's so nice to have memories of favourite places, Pam. I have collections of cowrie shells from beaches I have visited. I always search for them, but rarely find any. ;-)

Amelia.. I miss the sea so desperately it hurts. I have many shells and pebbles and even sand. All are memories.
