After a break of a few months, it's time to revive the Prime Lens Group competition. Following some online discussion (see other threads) we have decided that the competitions will, in future, run for either two months OR ten entries, whichever comes first. What that means is that it would be clever to get your entry in promptly, to ensure you don't miss the cut-off! On the other hand, with two months (maybe) you (might) have time to take a few shots for the comp ... if it doesn't first reach the numbers!

Over emails, Marta Wojtkowska has asked me to set up the next competition for her. You may recall that, as the winner of the most recent group competition, she gets to set the next subject and to choose the winner. Marta has chosen "Wheels" as her subject. That should give everyone an enormous range of choices.

Remember though, to add the keyword "Prime Lenses 0516" so we can readily identify all the entries at once and please add a thumbnail or link in this thread. You can have up to 2 entries.

This pic...has been taken with the iPhone, does it count as a prime? If not just tell me. But it is the only wheel I have at the moment!

Xata - it is a great picture and it is exactly what I expect to see in this competition :)
I am not sure about its "prime feature" though...
If iPhone can zoom it is not prime (by definition) ;)
Or perhaps it is nevertheless ;) I don't know! :)

Well, it's a fixed lens, need a ruling from George as if iPhone is OK then that means practically any mobile phone camera is OK. I use my Samsung Note 4 camera quite often for my 366 in2016 and the results are pretty good :-) btw great closeup and clarity of your wheel Xata.

Thanks Gillian. I will wait for a clear decision from Tiabunna and/or Dynamo before addind this to the group's photo thread and keep it or delete it from the comp.
Have a nice day all of you!

Well, lenses fall into two groups: zoom lenses which go from wide angle to a narrower angle (not always telephoto), or fixed focus lenses which have no adjustment for their focal length (ie angle of field of view). On that basis, if the mobile phone lens is not adjustable, then by definition it is a fixed focal length and images taken with it would be admissible here. It may seem a little unlikely, but I believe we need to work from the technical definition, rather than if the lens "is from a recognised lens maker" or whatever. So, good luck, Xata. :-)

As Phone Cameras - as far as i know - "zoom" by just cropping the angle of view or the sensor but not by manipulating the lens, which remains just the same, i'd interprete them as "prime", too :-)

(Exception: Asus Zen-Phone. This one has a real Zoom Lens)

Gosh, only three entries in the two months since this competition has been open. Severe lack of interest :-) However the title May 2016 Competition may have stopped people from even looking. Perhaps it should be renamed... Current Competition

Well, well... Three entries only but all of them are to the point! Thank you!
Let me tell you: I really appreciate your input:
Xata's wheel for composition,
Gillian's tractor for how strong it looks,
and "whatever it is" by dsglass for finding wheels while looking up :)
You are all winners to me!

Now it is up to George to decide what happens next...

Oh, sorry - it's a ferris wheel being assembled at a street fair; those are the seats in the foreground, still in their cases. :D

Sorry to take so long to respond, the internet has been 'out' here for the past day or so. Thanks for the entries to this comp, I'd intended to enter but things caught up a little with me... (the old story that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions")... Thanks for your suggestion, Gillian, on the title of "Current Competition", I think we'll go with that in future. Thanks also Marta for your review of the entries. If you'll forgive me, I'll post a new competition topic tomorrow.
