Luang Prabang and the north of Laos


After all my previous visits to Laos in the last 16 years this excursion to the north and north-east of Laos was one of my most exciting tours in this fascinating country. This is the highway intersection where we went to the direction Phongsali some days before. For the 232 km to Phongsali you need more than 10 hours to drive.

In Song Cha village we had to stop for some hours due a flat tyre on our minibus. It was my opportunity to go for a walk around in this village to shut my photos.

The river flows through Song Cha hasn't a name written on the map. It goes to the south and ends in the Nam Nga river which we crossed the way out of Luang Prabang.

The tradition of spirit houses are common in Laos and Thailand and aren't origin from the Buddhism. Shamanism and Buddhism are interleaved each other every where.
