The Valentine & Sons number is cut off at lower left.

Well this is an 1890s shot with the old McIntyre Block dead centre in the photo (the one on your teacup). In the foreground at left are the turrets of the Manitoba Hotel, which burned down in 1899 and on which Notman (the most famous Canadian photographer of the era) was standing to take the shot. So this was already about a 10 year old picture when the postcard was issued and at that time an enormous amount would have changed over such a period.
