Heiligen-Geist-Hospital
Hinter dieser mysteriösen Erscheinung verbirgt sich eine der ältesten Sozialeinrichtungen der Welt. 1227 wurde das Heiligen-Geist-Hospital als Stiftung reicher Kaufleute gegründet. Hier wurden die Armen und Kranken versorgt. In der Reformationszeit wandelte man das Hospital in ein Altenheim um. Zunächst standen alle Betten der Bewohner in der Halle. 1820 baute man vier Quadratmeter große (kleine) Kammern, die nach oben offen waren. Diese Kammern wurden bis 1970 bewohnt und sind bis heute erhalten.
Das Heiligen-Geist-Hospital gehört - wie ein Großteil der mittelalterlichen Lübecker Altstadt - seit 1987 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.
