Ilbenstadt/Wetterau: Romanische Basilika

Die ehemalige Abteikirche Maria, St. Petrus und Paulus wurde bereits 1159 geweiht und wird im Volksmund ‚Wetterauer Dom‘ genannt. Das ursprüngliche kostbare Inventar wurde förmlich verschleudert als die Kirche 1806 im Zuge der Säkulariierung zur Pfarrkirche wurde. 1929 erklärte Pabst Pius XI sie zur Basilica minor. Die in den Jahren 1960 bis 1970 gründlich renovierte Kirche liegt hoch über dem Städtchen und ist immer noch des Ansehens wert.
