The watchers

While coming through the Spiti Valley in North India, we stopped at a temporary ( summer only) dhaba or roadside eatery. This area is deep under snow for some months of the year, so there are not permanent buildings in some of these remote stops. Two very interested dogs were watching closely every mouthful we ate. It was cold, and 4000 meters in elevation!
Keep well everyone. Sending hugs to my friends!

Happy New Year, and may you stay well and healthy…Omicron is certainly making itself well known!
Wishing that 2022 becomes a safer and happier year for us all.

I was walking across this park at sunset. It is next to my home. I thought it a good way to wish all my friends thé very best of affection and thoughts for Christmas and New Year. I hope you and your dear ones stay safe from this latest round of COVID.
Have a marvellous time with those you love, and let us hope for a much better 2022.
I have just about completed all I most needed to do at the new house, so I promise I will be around more to chat with you in the New Year.

Near the village of Hornopiren, on the Carretera Austral in Chilean Patagonia.
Have a lovely Friday and a safe weekend. Stay healthy.
I apologise for my absence. Huge task of trying to fully unpack and settle in new home after belongings and furniture finally arrived from 1200km distant. I have not seen any of these things for 18 months, so it is a voyage of great discovery.

Spanners have many uses! Tbilisi, Georgia.
Thinking of all of you and hoping you are safe and well as this dreadful wave of Covid sweeps over the world.
Keep well. Keep safe.

Cathedral(centre) and carillon by Oscar Niemeyer whose architecture is breathtaking in design, and fascinating in execution, I am truly amazed by him…and his design for this whole city in the shape of an airliner, with its key administrative buildings along the axis and wings is a marvel to explore.

HFF. Stumbled across this gorgeous boy sitting on a fence in a National Park in Sabah, Borneo. I love the crazy appearance of proboscis monkeys.
Have a lovely Friday and a fantastic weekend. Stay safe and healthy too…xxxx

A small Catholic Church in Brasilia, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and consecrated in 1958.
I love Brasilia, and Niemeyer’s architectural masterpieces.
Happy to see everyone again. Have been preoccupied with too many difficult things, but seeing may way a bit clearer. Will try to get back into my groove. Hope all are well.

Nawalgarh, Shekhawati, India. Home to the most magnificent painted havelis(mansions) of merchants from 100+ years ago, now quietly falling into ruin. And the burly bull who head butted me in the back as I was taking a photo of this very haveli. King of the streets. A fascinating town, quite fascinating.
HFF to all. A splendid weekend to you, and safe and healthy days full of photos and smiles! Thanks for any visits…❤️

The belltower, and behind it the Cathedral of Brasilia, designed by the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer. Extraordinary boldness and clarity of design, and quite revolutionary. This entire purpose designed Brasilian capital of the 60’s was the work of Niemeyer , and is is a most inspirational city to explore.

While travelling in Paraguay, we went by local bus to the north, the Chaco, to the large tracts of land owned and farmed by Mennonite communities. We stayed a few days among the Mennonites. One fellow we met, a farmer, had this juvenile giant anteater, which he was raising after its mother was hit by a vehicle. I fed it minced meat, and it licked it off my hand with its very long ant- gathering tongue. I found it an extraordinary experience. Those front claws can be lethal…they tear apart giant termite mounds, and can kill! The grow over 2 meters in length. They are almost my favourite animal. I have been lucky enough to see them in the wild also in Paraguay and Brasil.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Friday and new week. I am wallowing in travel photos in lockdown!

Mysore, India, 2002. Harvest festival, when cows are coloured red and gold and green…and this one is in harmony with the fence!
Today Mysore no longer has its streets like this, half full of cow drawn carts, but is a maddening noise of dense polluting motor vehicles.
Sending warmest wishes for an enchanting weekend, for good health, and happiness

Tbilisi, Georgia. A most extraordinary piece of public art, made from recycled tools and metal scraps…a park bench, with patient dog and briefcase. A comfortable seat. And with a giant tree made of similar materials to overlook it. I loved the creativity implicit in the work.

An Inca set of relics high in the mountains of Peru. A much needed fence here.
Please excuse me for not visiting. I am finding a few things a bit tough at the moment…living in a tiny caravan for over 14 months with Covid delays on house construction, in lockdown in a city I am just getting to know. My head is in a strange space.
I look forward to returning to some normality some indeterminate time ahead.
Sending hugs. Best thoughts for a fabulous weekend and a positive and cheerful new week.
