With the Ghan we drove to Alice Springs. There was the terminus at that time...

This was the ancient Old Ghan...in 1982 I think the new Ghan started, on a different track, through to Alice Springs. The Old Ghan was a steam train and the tracks followed the old Afghan camel route!

A well-composed landscape (the big diagonal made by the fence draws the eyes through the photo very effectively). On top of that it reminds me of Mystery Road; I was looking to see if that was Jay Swan in the truck.

I don't remember seeing any fences wile walking around 'town' at night 40+ years ago. I was using the time between getting off the std gauge Ghan and on the narrow gauge one.
