Diana, that is remarkable. I've never seen anything like it! Looks like parrots on sticks.

They are indeed. They grow in the remotest places....in the desert.
Once years ago I managed to grow one in my suburban garden in some sand and I just ignored it. I had people knocking on the door all day long asking about it.
They are the floral emblem of my state, which is mostly desert inland.

Maybe I could find some in a flower catalog here. It sounds like they would grow here, but maybe not survive the winter. It gets very cold.

You could try, but even here I cannot buy the seeds! Somehow, that 35 years ago I found a small plant somewhere in a sale. They live in remotest desert and blisteringly hot areas. These do get cold at night, but are not too cold in winter. The sand can be red and bare for years, then if there is rain, which can be only once in 3 or 4 years, they suddenly burst up and carpet the earth with thousands of these flowers.
