Good to know if/when sharing videos

Good news! Adobe Flash player is no longer required to play videos and embedded Deezer soundtracks on desktop computers and laptops. Thanks to Rob, HTML5 video tag is now used to run video and audio files.

Technical information of this video

Duration 32 sec
Image Height 1080
Image Width 1920
Major Brand MP4 v2 [ISO 14496-14]
Video Frame Rate 30 frames per sec
Data Size 72 MB
Full details

It is pretty easy to upload videos to your ipernity account. You can upload videos just like any other files. However, video files are really large, and therefore uploading to rather "slow" ipernity servers takes time and space! And of course you also need to have Standard or Plus subscription here at ipernity in order to upload such large files as videos usually are.

To upload this video took approximately 8 minutes on WiFi connection. For faster uploads and to decrease the use of storage space, it would be better to compress the videos somehow. For example there are some iPhone and Android apps for video compression available, if you are using smart phone. There are also all kinds of video compression software for computers.

You can also consider whether you really need to shoot in full HD 1920×1080 px quality in the first place. VGA 640x480 px can be enough for videos shared on web pages. For example on my older video taken with Panasonic DMC-TZ60 thanks to lower resolution the file size was only 8 MB for 15 second video. So, check out if you can change the settings for lower video resolution on your camera.

This test video was filmed on and uploaded from my smart phone. The video is so called full HD video, which of course is more or less the standard these days. But if one plans to start shooting videos on regular bases, I say ipernity really is not the best place to upload, store and share video files.

Therefore I personally recommend YouTube instead. I know many hates anything Google related, but if you do have Google account, then you can also use Youtube. If you do, then you can easily also share your videos here on ipernity blog articles. For that I have also published a quick tutorial:

How to embed video onto blog article

Just I tried it ... here: www.ipernity.com/doc/heidiho/49439008

The problem:
it`s only a very short mp4- video, taken with Galaxy ... 11 sec, 18 MP.
It needed a long time to upload it to IP. Before I had to upload Adobe Flash version 9.
So now I can see the video from computer, not on my smartphone (although before I added the flash-app to my S10).

I think it`s better to wait on developing technics.
Adobe Flash will close in the end of 2020 ... let`s see, what will come.

S10? Do you mean Samsung Galaxy S10? Try Chrome browser on it. You should not need any Flash app. When you visit ipernity with Chrome browser on Android, you will first get m.ipernity.com mobile pages for ipernity. Then scroll down to settings and switch to www.ipernity.com

P.S. Try switching to lower VGA 640x380 px quality. In my opinion that is enough for Web, and takes much less space (faster upload and less storage space usage). This photo article updated accordingly.
