Union Buildings entrance gates
Gated entrance to the renovated residential Union Buildings.
Union Buildings "Old Union Poor House" - Hospital Hill, Aldershot.
Originally a residence of Sir Richard Tichborne C1630, extensively extended in use under the terms of the Poor Law Act of 1834 and later purchased in 1854 by the War Department during development of the military camp.
Used by the Army as a military hospital during 1854-1879, at the time of the Crimean War, then became the District Pay Office.
During the 1960s redevelopment of the Aldershot Military Town the buildings were used as offices for the MPBW and the architectural and engineering practice of Building Design Partnership. After closure of these offices during 1970 the buildings were used for a time by the Services Families Welfare organisation and some general amenity space.
More recently the Grade II listed building has been renovated and developed with residential apartments.
