In 1717 George Pitt built an early Georgian country house in the Frome Valley, just 2 miles from the county town of Dorchester. The house was made of red brick, but when George III saw it he expressed his dislike of the style, saying with disapproval, 'Brick, Mr Pitt, only brick'. Pitt promptly had the brick house encased in Portland stone.
The house is now part of Kingston Maurward Agricultural College and on this day the students were taking exams.

A Dovecote that is not quite as it seems. It was built in 1934 and is an aesthetic building which was conceived to mask its more primary, utilitarian function as a pump house. It has a strong spatial and visual relationship with the Grade I listed house and the Grade II listed gate piers of Lytes Cary Manor & Gardens.

Main picture showing the porch of The Greyhound Inn, which is a Grade II listed building. The porch stone dates to 1733. The Inn is situated in The Square (PiP), Corfe Castle, and has terraced outside covered seating at the back and serves delicious food, which I can personally recommend.

As it's quite a boring picture, I have added two photos taken from the bench, at Sturminster Newton Mill.
