Mere Down, Wiltshire.

Mere Down, Wiltshire.
A walk along the Mere Downs, starting at White Sheet Hill. If you look closely it is possible to see two people walking along the ridge, on the horizon, which gives an idea of the scale.

Beautiful view over rural Wiltshire Rosa with a nice perspective. See what you mean about the two figures on the ridge.

It is steeper than it looks in this picture Doug, but I was very brave! The blue hills are in Dorset. It's where Wilts, Dorset & Somerset meet. Many thanks for your kind comments.

Bets wishes,
Rosa.

Such a lovely landscape..........part wild and part cultivated. I love the misty hills in the background and the tiny people up on the ridge.

Trig Points are being overlooked nowadays.............due to satnav availability, but I quite like seeing the actual place I'm standing rather than an arrow on a phone app! They're part of our history.

It seems like you had a nice day.

Thank you Keith. I love walking up there. As I told Doug, the blue misty hills are in Dorset. There is a good circular walk of 6km, which I hope to do next month....I just have to get used to the height!! Yes I like the trig points too. I have a satnav but hardy ever use it. I still prefer a map.

Happy Wednesday :)

If you like maps check out marvellousmaps.com I just bought the "Marvellous map of Great British Place Names" for the grandchildren.........it's a bit rude but they love it!

The Downs in Wiltshire are excellent to walk Rosa, as I have done a little bit of that myself. A grand high view here, well captured as usual. Nice to see the trig point there.

Cheers, Herb

Thank you Herb. I intend to do the complete circular walk in a month or two. I am trying not to be so bothered by heights! We will see how I get on ;-))

Hi Rosa
Such a wonderful view, and I do like those two people on the horizon..
I did wonder if I saw two little ginger animals hiding under the bushes just to left of centre, and third of the way up..
Still, it is great to have a day out like this!!

Best Wishes, and stay safe!!
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your kind comments. I don't think there were any animals there. I heard a lot of bird song but couldn't see any of them! I always enjoy my walks here but they are usually confined to White Sheet Hill.

Take care and best wishes,
Rosa.

Hermoso paisaje. Veo a las dos personas y percibo la amplitud de la escena.
El punto aquí se llama vértice o punto geodésico, que indica una posición geográfica exacta conformada por una red de triangulación con otros vértices geodésicos.

Thank you very much. There is a 6km circular walk on these Downs. I would like to do that soon. It's nice to see the old trig points.

Beautiful Wiltshire hills, well captured.
Since I read Watership Down, I love this kind of landscape and adding to what Keith mentioned: partly busy, sometimes crowded (down), partly lonely (up).

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Leon_Vienna club
Thank you for your kind comments Leon. This part of the Downs is close to Stourhead Lake. You can just about see Stourhead house from the top.
