Lovely view of the old city, I have never visited Salisbury but this reminded me of Totnes in Devon, as I recall it has a similar archway.

It's a long time since I visited Totnes, but I think you are right.

A lovely street scene, although a place of sanctuary they took good care to barricade themselves in a traveller arriving at night would have to take their chance in the town. When Leicester became a city the church that became the cathedral was not the first choice but the preferred one was just outside the city walls

You live in an area I don't know very well Peter. I hope to put that right sometime. Do you still have much of the old city walls?

No the walls have all gone you can get an idea where it was by the roads with gate in the name, it was an important Roman town a couple of years ago before redevelopment they excavated a site where I used to work and found Roman remains it amazed me how far down they were the original building had big cellars, back then it was Ratae Corieltauvorum

Wonderful city view with rather unsual colours!******

This is very well taken Rosa.............the composition is lovely and so is the light and details.

I've tried for ages to get a shot of this archway and it's approaches, but I've never got anything I was happy with. Having seen this, I think I'm going to give it another go soon!
