I once inherited a similar ceremonial helmet to one of these - some yeomanry division or other - together with a William IV era dress sword that went with it. I thought to bring them to Spain one day from Cornwall but unfortunately I found that they had been stored in an outer shed where the rain had got in and transformed both to an un-recoverable mass of rust. :o(

Oh Andy, that is such a shame! A similar thing happened to me years ago when I stored (stupidly) some cherished photos and cards in the garage whilst the house was being "done up". I could kick myself, even now :(

I corrected my comment to William IV. Yes a great pity! Especially as I found just the place for the helmet and sword in my flat here in Spain!
