My dad worked in radio and t.v. in Chicago and was asked occasionally to emcee various charity or civic events in the city that usually had a popular entertainer as the headliner, as was the case here. He also hosted a t.v. series, Great Music From Chicago, for which he interviewed some of the top conductors and operatic performers of the day.

Yes, Alan, he did get to work briefly with a lot of celebrities and politicians over the years. He enjoyed being in the spotlight but rarely got paid for these jobs because they were mostly charity functions. The headliners always got paid and dad would bring home a plaque and sometimes a photo. :)
