Oh, these are such neat flowers. I like the detail on the underside. Very nice, Laura! :)

thank you - almost always see the underside as they keep their heads down. the b&w brought out the details.

Ah, I both agree and disagree with you. This photo is in response to the group challenge (Saturday Self-Challenge). And I was frustrated because I usually only take b&w with film but had only a week to get a photo for the challenge so used digital. Also, I have always wished I could take b&w nature photos like Ansel Adams, but really all my nature photos are in color.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I prefer my own nature photos when they are in color, and I struggle big time translating digital photos back to b&w (if I've got this right, all digital photos are actually first captured in b&w by the sensors, but translated to color - but we have no access to the original capture and so have to then translate back to b&w - arrgghh). I think this could have used different processing to be more successful in b&w.

Different kind or result here and likeable, but I agree with Pam.
People keep asking me to join the group 'Only colour - no Black and White in My Life' or some such name. This I won't do as there are many B/W photos that I really like and it can be appropriate in some circumstances, but in the main, I'm with Pam on this one!

See my above, way too wordy, response to Pam J. [I basically agree with you and Pam]

I love b&w so much, but I struggle with it in digital and with nature photos. I wasn't really happy with my version here. Probably it's that I wasn't completely satisfied with the original photo...

The bw accentuates the veins in the petals beautifully- I don't miss colour at all!

i'm glad that you like it in b&w. and i agree, the veins are the main thing in this version (i think the others might like this better if i had a different processing of the contrast etc)

More or less a new plant acquaintance for me. Beautiful details on the leaves.

thank you. those are actually the petals facing down. the plant hides in the woods mostly, but has been being brought out to gardens recently. this one was brought to me by the birds!

I can't tell if it's in color or black and white, so that doesn't matter. What matters to me is that it is captured at such an interesting angle and is an attractive subject.
