The Long Man of Wilmington from the edge of the village - 15.9.2018

The Long Man of Wilmington from the edge of the village - 15.9.2018
Two views of the Long Man of Wilmington - Why? Because I couldn't decide which to upload. I like the view through the trees in the other one, but the Long Man is very faint. In this one he is more visible but less picturesque.

Marco F. Delminho, Bruno Suignard, John FitzGerald have particularly liked this photo

Thanks, Jaap. I nearly missed seeing the Long Man. I was going to the Priory, which was behind me while taking this photo, but I could see that there were nice views from the car park and wandered in there. I then suddenly realized that I was looking at the famous Long Man.

I am still uncertain. I think that that is because I was in a small grove alongside the car park and looking out between the leaves to the countryside beyond was quite beautiful. So it is my memory of that time that makes the other photo special. This one certainly places the Long Man centre stage and I do like the sweep of the landscape, spoilt slightly by the cars.

I share your preference, Phil. They're both fine photos, though.

This one seems to me to be half an attempt to get the longman, ie 'why didn't the photographer crop / use a longer lens and portrait rather than landscape'. But of course I wasn't there...
