The tornados had already happened north of us... this was the remnants of the shelf cloud coming over and it spawned torrential rain and hail Thankfully the hail was light here... other places had tennis ball sized hail.

We had tornadoes in Kentucky, but nothing like what Oklahoma sees. I was out driving through an F3 once, trying to beat the storm home. The twister passed about a thousand feet from me, but the rain was so hard I never saw it. That's as close as I ever came, and we don't really get them in Chicago.

I'm glad it by-passed you, though. Things looked rough on TV.

Didn't know you were having weather like this. Used to live in tornado territory and remember as a boy cowering with the rest of the family under an old table in the basement while a tornado destroyed a nearby town.

Beautiful and dramatic. Very scary though. We complain about our weather but we don't realise how lucky we are.

That is mighty scary. Our blizzards are easier to take, although 9 feet of snow this winter was pushing it. It snowed again today, but that sure beats hail.

Yes... I have friends on LI and in Boston.. and both are not seeing the 'fun' anymore !!!

Hail is a nasty thing though. The chappie who delivers our propane lives about 10 miles away. last year he lost his roof to hail... nearly a $30,000 refit. Cars here all have hail dents. we got off light...

We have to get hail insurance on my wife's old family farm in Kansas every year. You can lose a whole crop in minutes!
